Workshop #1.1: How technology enables sustainability

Trainer: Georgina Goff, Senior Director of Marketing, Communication and Corporate Citizenship, EMEA – Flex

How technology enables sustainability

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is set to contribute 2.3% of global greenhouse emissions by 2020*.  However, in the digital era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), technology can be harnessed as an enabler to improve sustainability across every organisation, market and industry sector.

Individual organisations are taking responsibility for their own sustainability goals as governments struggle to agree on global climate change policy. The development and implementation of uniform standards and adoption of technology throughout the supply chain will ultimately allow for increased efficiency, which benefits society, the economy and the environment.

In this session, you will hear how Flex and its customers are using technology to change the landscape in a range of areas, from climate solutions including renewable energy, to connected homes, autonomous vehicles, smart agriculture and supply chain optimization.

Training Results

During every industrial revolution there are winners and losers. Established organisations are displaced and new technology enables new entrants. This 4th revolution is claimed to be the fastest period of innovation ever, and so the implications for our world are deep, far reaching and imminent.

New technologies like the Internet of Things, Augmented and Virtual reality (AR/VR), Robotics, Additive Manufacturing techniques are disruptive technologies, upsetting traditional industries to bring new value to consumers, communities and employees.

Will the promise of this technology to help us achieve ‘smarter living” address today’s important challenges for our people and our planet, or just exacerbate it?
